My Background
After graduation I spent one year producing television news for ABC News 4 in Charleston, South Carolina. During my time at News 4 I learned the ins and outs of the newsroom. As a news producer, you manage a heavy workload, choosing and writing stories to fill your hour, pivoting in reaction to breaking news, and more.
Now, I have the pleasure of working full-time at an association management and lobbying firm. Here, you'll usually find me managing social media pages, designing graphics, and building email marketing campaigns. I also support our associations through data entry, member support, event planning, website construction, and more.
I'm Mercy Dirks! I'm recently married and living in Columbia, South Carolina, with my husband, Phil, and pets, Ellie, Penny, and Armie.

I have been in Columbia almost my entire life - my favorite part of Columbia is Lake Murray. My love for musical theater and ballet lead me to go to college for Broadcast Journalism and Mass Communications, thinking I'd be your next recognizable local news anchor. It didn't take long for me to realize I was more inclined to production, organization, and writing.
2021-2023 I worked as a Partnerships and Media Coordinator at The Blood Connection, a non-profit blood donation center in the Carolinas and Georgia. Here, my responsibilities ranged from partnership management, public relations, advertising, event planning, marketing, campaign management, and video production. I managed partnerships and activations with news stations, corporate restaurant chains, sports teams, hospital systems, and non-profits.
